Hello, Everyone!
As the unforgiving heatwave scalds everything that comes in direct contact, our body organs also face the brunt of the soaring temperatures when we get exposed to the Sun's heat and soaring temperatures including our sensitive eyes.
Since our eyes are the most exposed body part to the Sun's rays it's essential to do eye care during the summer heat. The harmful UV rays and harsh sunlight can make our eyes vulnerable to several eye problems such as dry eyes, eye allergies, and infections.
According to Dr. Jay Goyal who is an eye surgeon, LASIK, and retina specialist, it is vital to take necessary precautions to protect our eyes from the Sun's rays as without taking mandatory precautionary eye care measures our eyes are vulnerable to several eye problems such as dry eyes, eye allergies and infections for instance styes and conjunctivitis.
Dry eyes lead to a burning sensation in our eyes, eye irritation, and light sensitivity and Dr.Goyal also suggested a few tips to do eye care in summer.
In this blog post, we will focus on several measures suggested by eye expert Dr.Goyal for eyecare in summer.

So let us get started.
-> 1. Sunglasses For UV Blocking :
UV rays can pose damage to our sensitive eyes. The prolonged exposure to UV rays causes modification to lens proteins which can cause corneal damage, cataracts, and macular degeneration that can eventually turn out to be a condition of decreased vision.UV rays can lead to photokeratitis as well as dry eyes and henceforth triggers cataract formation, macular degeneration as well as several additional age-related eye problems. So it is essential to wear sunglasses that have 100% UV protection and block the Sun's harmful UVA and UVB rays on summery and cloudy days.
->2. Restrict Computer /Laptop and Mobile Screen Use :
Prolonged exposure to a computer/laptop or mobile screen can lead to dry eye conditions. Summers make our eyes susceptible to dry eyes so in this case restricting ourselves from Computer/laptop or mobile screen use and often taking breaks while doing computer/laptop or mobile work can greatly alleviate dry eye symptoms.
->3. Using Eye Lubricants /Artificial Tears:
Lubricating eye drops or artificial tears can help relieve the symptoms of dry eyes such as a burning sensation in our eyes, eye irritation, and scratchy eyes. Eye lubricating drops can considerably reduce dry eyes and pacify dry eyes.
It is important to seek medical guidance from an eye doctor before opting for any eye drops and should also adhere to the eye doctor's guidelines which he would suggest as per the eye condition.
-> 4. Eye Protection In Swimming Pool :
Swimming is the most popular and most loved summer activity. However, the presence of a chemical -chlorine in pool water can lead to a reaction on the eye's surface. Chlorine can cause eye redness, teary eyes, and light sensitivity in the eyes that can last for several hours according to the eye experts. Chlorine present in pool water can cause eye discomfort therefore it is recommended to wear swimming goggles for reducing the eye's chlorine exposure. Plus, it is also recommended to properly wash eyes with fresh water post swimming to keep them safe from chemical contact and to keep them healthy.
-> Wearing Hats/Caps Or Visors:
Apart from wearing UV-blocking sunglasses, it's important to wear hats /caps, or visors.
But what are visors?
A visor is a curved part or a circular projection that protrudes outward from a cap, crown, or helmet. It is made up of plastic material incorporated with polycarbonate- to render greater clarity and impact resistance.
Hence, visors can protect our eyes from sunlight or liquid splash.
Visors can safeguard our eyes from exposure to direct sun rays and UV rays.
Conclusively, we can say that by taking necessary precautionary eye care measures in summer we can keep our eyes safe and healthy.
Thank You.
